INTERCESSIONS FOR 1st SUNDAY OF ADVENT (C)

Priest:

As we celebrate the beginning of the Church’s New Year let us turn to our Heavenly Father and ask him to listen to our prayers.

Reader:

  1. We pray for the church that she will be strong in truth and faith
and help us to prepare to celebrate the birthday of Jesus
and the coming of the Lord.
(PAUSE) Lord, in your mercy – Hear our prayer.

  2. We pray for those who are leaders of nations
that they may be led by God’s Spirit to make wise decisions
for the future good of our world and its people.
(PAUSE) Lord, in your mercy – Hear our prayer.

  3. We pray for those whose lives are filled with sickness and pain,
anxiety and fear, grief or despair,
may we be channels of the Lord’s love and healing.
(PAUSE) Lord, in your mercy – Hear our prayer.

  4. We pray for our Parish as we begin our Diamond Jubilee year,
may our faith increase and our community life be strengthened.
(PAUSE) Lord, in your mercy – Hear our prayer.

  5. Let us pray that each one of us will understand the true meaning of Advent
and be alert to the signs of the times,
leading steady and blameless lives as we wait for the Day of the Lord.
(PAUSE) Lord, in your mercy – Hear our prayer.

  6. We pray for those we love who have died,
may they find the fullness of joy in God’s presence.
(PAUSE) Lord, in your mercy – Hear our prayer.

We ask Mary, the Mother of the Lord, to pray with us as we say – Hail Mary.

Let us pray for a while in silence.

Priest:

These and all our prayers we offer to you, Almighty Father, through Jesus Christ your Son who is Lord, for ever and ever. Amen
