Intercessions for Sunday 11th May 2008

Pentecost

Priest:

Gathered together in God’s love, let us bring our petitions before Him.

Reader:

God has granted to us the gift of His Holy Spirit. May we be open to the way that He will guide our lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the Church, particularly its leader Pope Benedict. May his leadership inspire us to be shining examples of the Catholic faith. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We have been charged with the care of this great planet and whilst there are many things that are outside our control, there are things we can influence. Whatever we are doing, may we always act with a view to the impact on generations to come. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Borneo has recently suffered a major disaster, leaving people dead or injured, homeless and hungry. Let us pray that they will find solace in God’s love and that our hearts will be moved to support them in any way we can. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Warring factions seem to be ever-present throughout the world, their activities bringing misery to thousands of innocent people. Let us pray for a spirit of peace to descend, to change men’s hearts and to bring to an end the seemingly endless violence. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.

In this month, which we dedicate to our blessed Lady, we join our prayers with hers as we say: Hail Mary …

Let us spend a few moments in silent prayer.

(Please remain at the lectern until Father has said the following prayer).

Priest:

Merciful Father, accept these prayers, which we make in the name of Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.
