Intercessions for Sunday 4th May 2008 Feast of the Ascension Priest: As Christians gathered together in faith, let us be still and pray together. Reader: Let us pray for everyone who cares or has responsibility for children. May all that they do, have a positive influence on the growth and development of those in their charge. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Let us pray for the families of those who have recently died. In our own community, we think particularly of Pam Davidson following the loss of her husband, John. May they draw strength from your gentleness as they come to terms with their loss. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Our parish cannot function without the efforts of the many parishioners who contribute in so many ways, often behind the scenes and unnoticed. We give thanks for them and all their hard work. May they be an inspiration to others who are looking for ways to share their own personal talents. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. Jesus showed a special affection for the discarded and marginalised. In our relatively comfortable existence, may we strive to be like Him in our daily lives. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. We are bombarded by political spin and confrontation from the arenas of our local and national, government bodies. May those in authority not lose site of the reasons why they were elected and may they work tirelessly for the benefit of those who they represent. (pause) Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. In this month, which is special to our blessed Lady, we join our prayers with hers as we say Hail Mary … Let us spend a few moments in silent prayer. (Please remain at the lectern until Father has said the following prayer). Priest: We have faith in Your love and mercy. Lord hear and grant our prayers, through Christ Your son.
