Intercessions for the Third Sunday of Advent—2001
Priest:
As we celebrate the Third Sunday of advent, we place our confidence in you Lord, to answer our petitions:
Reader:
1. In the first reading, Isaiah tells us that
God is coming to save us, to give us everlasting joy.
Let us pray that we
will be able to trust in God’s goodness and have faith that all will be well.
Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.
2. We hear St James in his Epistle, urge us to be
patient and not lose heart.
Let
us pray that we may not lose heart when we experience setbacks, and help us to
overcome these difficulties with God’s help
Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.
3. In the Gospel we hear
John the Baptist tell us to “prepare the way”.
Let
us pray that we may prepare ourselves spiritually, as well as we can, for the
coming of the Christ child
Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.
4. Let us remember our children
and young people, and those who teach them at our school.
Let
us pray that our teachers and their pupils may enjoy the end of term
festivities, and come back refreshed from their Christmas holidays
Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.
5. The Thornbury Clergy will be
very busy over the next few weeks, ministering to their people.
Let us pray that all priests and ministers will be able to give of
their best at this time, and that their congregations, and ours, give them all
the support we can
Lord in your mercy hear our prayer.
Let us ask our Blessed Lady to pray for us Hail Mary…
Let us pray in silence for all our needs…
Priest:
Lord we pray that you will grant our prayers in the name of Jesus. Amen
